HOTEL GRAND BRETAGNE ATHENS
WHERE: ATHENS
WHO VISITED: Penny Spencer from Spencer Travel
WHEN: July 2015
WHAT WE LOVED
Hotel Grand Bretagne is an absolutely beautiful hotel located right on Athens’ main square.
Situated right in the heart of the city since 1874, the hotel is within walking distance of exclusive shopping areas, museums and central business district.
Rooms
Our room was gorgeous, wonderfully appointed and overlooked Syntagma Square and the Parliament in the heart of this historic capital city.
The hotel’s 320 rooms and suites marry old-world elegance with state-of-the-art facilities across an inspired range of rooms and suites, from Classic rooms, Deluxe rooms, Junior Suites, Deluxe Suites, Grand Suites, Grand Deluxe Suites which sleep up to five people, Executive Grand Suites, the Royal Suite and the Presidential Suite.
Pools
The hotel has both an indoor and an outdoor, rooftop pool.
Spa
The hotel’s GB Spa Athens offers a range of massage and beauty treatments and indulgent relaxation in its Thermal Suite. The hotel also has a well-equipped Fitness Studio, operating 24/7 for hotel guests.
Dining
The GB Roof Garden Restaurant has magnificent, uninterrupted views of the Acropolis, Lycabettus Hill and Parliament, and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. GB Roof Garden Bar is the perfect place for a refreshing sundowner.
The Winter Garden lounge in the hotel’s historic lobby serves an elegant breakfast, light lunch, high tea or dinner accompanied by live piano music.
Alexander’s bar is a refine spot to enjoy a classic cocktail, a fancy brandy, or an exquisite cognac.
The sun-drenched GB Pool Bar & Grill is located on the 7th floor and has views of Lycabettus Hill and illuminated Athens of an evening.
In-room dining is available 24 hours a day.
Recommended experiences
Located adjacent to Parliament building on Syntagma Square, be sure to attend the Changing of the Guard and admire the characteristic, synchronized gait of the high-stepping soldiers in pleated skirts and woolen stockings.
Final word
It’s very hard to go past the hotel’s rooftop bar and restaurant overlooking the Acropolis.
Overall I think this hotel ticked all the boxes from location, view, rooms and service.
10 out of 10!
